fed up with lines from blade on windows
« on: April 20, 2013, 02:55:05 pm »
This happens but not too often but its irritating,   has anyone any idea what causes this,    rubber   blades new,  when drying a thin line apeares on glass left behind from top of rubber,   usually wipe on an angle to prevent , scrims seem to not be too good lately,    they seem to leave marks when detailing. I use 2 scrims one to clean , one to buff dry.

could be you are pressing too hard,   or try different rubber ,some rubber batches are rubbish

how do u store your rubber,it needs to be in a cardboard box on its own otherwise the edge messes up

How many clips you using if two the rubber isn't being pulled to tight or slack is it? Ettore soft are the ones to use in my opinion

Proper lines or vapour trails? The vapour trail can be caused by using the squeegee to fast on the glass and cold glass sometimes... I try slowing myself down but I'm so used to one speed which is fast fast and fast  ;D slow your speed and see if this works.
I must admit I've been having problems with my wagtail blades and normally there fine so switch to ettore blades

With the snow etc last month there has been a lot of 'grease' on the glass. When you blade the almost invisible line of moisture that normally appears and then disappears is more noticable due to all the dirt you are taking off with the blade.

The scrim works less well because of the amount of 'grease' on the glass.

Doing leaded trad will have been a nightmare the last month or so.

The way around this is to cloth the glass first or soap up dip the applicator and soap up again.

I hope this helps. When I was trad I hated a month post snow/dust storm.

IMO, if it's leaving lines at the top of the curve, it's got to be a technique problem, e.g. too fast turn and not enough pressure. Could be a bad batch, I've had that before, but if you change type from soft to hard or from unger to ettore and it still happens, got to be technique.
No still don't understand, I must be thick

the directional lines left at the top right and left corners ( if these are what your talking of) are normally found while working in direct sun with fairy liquid.

Hi Johnny
You can get this when the end of the rubber is worn with running against the frame.
Take a sharp knife the type with the snap off blades is best and slice just a couple of millimeters off the end of the rubber.
You can extend the life for a  day or two like that.
Sometimes the new rubbers have a little moulding flash on the end that can cause problems I always cut that off too just a couple of mm.

I've not shopped around to be honest but just get my Ettore soft rubbers from window cleaning warehouse in a pack of 10x36". Always cut the end off first from the 36" to start your rubber I expect you know what I mean? If your using bayerson your definitely notice a difference in the quality they glide so much nicer than any other rubber especially with fairy!
