Yes, some sad stuff there.

Interesting comment at the end of the story regarding the fella who is in hospital after cleaning hotel windows in Eastbourne

Quote
The comment from the hotel owners immediately focuses on the fact that the window cleaner was an external contractor, which if the hotel has not ensured good management controls to ensure a safe working practice and risk assessments etc will be no line of defence against prosecution.

Only goes to prove what good training can help to stop, and the the major hedache caused for the contractor, hotel & sub contractor, plus the probable six figure fine, as well as probable lack of insurance cover, as laws have been broken.
Yes good training, good H & S  knowledge make life run smoother

You can go on as many training courses and insure to the hilt accidence will happen. Why do you think there is a fault if someone falls and injures himself. Define the word accident and you will see, they are not planned. The only way forward is to not use risky ladders.Cleaning that hotel will always be a risky job with ladders. Accidents will always happen, its a risk in a dangerous job.I read so aften of fellas cleaning trad  for 3 quid. Is this all there lives are worth? ??? ??? ??? ???

ACCIDENT :From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An accident or mishap is an unforeseen and unplanned event or circumstance, often with lack of intention or necessity. It usually implies a generally negative outcome which may have been avoided or prevented had circumstances leading up to the accident been recognized, and acted upon, prior to its occurrence.

So it could be prevented, by correct planning, the danger recognized, acted upon, bit like as i said, correct training, risk assesment, and job method statement, just goes to show why some have a succesful business and others learn the hard way.
As for a company, our policy is " All accidents are preventable", and not had a single accident in over 25, and that one honestly ws a commercial customer opened a old metal fan light window from first floor, and it hit the window cleaner below on the head, but was wearing a safety hard hat, so again careful planning, training etc, and risk assesments
Also the lad was a body builder with a 20 inch neck and a strong as an ox, so i little luck is also needed at times, but again the harder we work ar safety, the luckier we get
