Cleaning white PVCu frames
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:52:10 am »
While I plot and plan for my window cleaning empire I cleaned my own windows yesterday.

I noticed that the PVCu is minging and a good wash doesn't bring them up nice and bright.

Most people wouldn't bother but being a big believer in first Impressions counting I think the local window cleaner should have the cleanest windows with the brightest   frames.... After all if my windows look pants what confidence will potential customers have in my service?

I have heard of people using Cif and car polish to restore them but Im not convinced that an abrasive is the way to go.
any other proven methods out there?

are you cleaning by hand or by wfp methods my friend?

also, a restoration service is a lot different from a clean, for example a 10 house would possibly be 110 restoring pvc, liek the opther guy said, swarfega is good, cif is also good, and you wont notice the abrasive, the best i have used is g101 (ebay) look up magica one go on youtube it the same stuff, if your wfp use it on your brush on first cleans.

after a few months in you wont want to do any kind of restoring work, windows are quicker hastle free and with a bit of g101 99% of frames will be perfect mate

for upvc resoration try using brillo pads they work a treat and gettin stains and marks etc off

then try the detergent route for giving a going over using pure water to rinse get very good results

Basically G101 is an APC or All Purpose Cleaner it is a high concentrate cleaning solution i use Meguiars APC for conny roof and gutter cleans and it brings them up shiny bright .

I have noticed that with WFP that the bottom of white upvc frames are going grey i assume this is something to do with the black rubber seals leeching overtime .

Even on downstairs lower window sash and sills even though i wipe them down with a cloth to dry them . Mike

Thanks for the suggestions peeps. Im not inclined to offer restoration as a service per say. I just want to make mine look good.
It may seem mad but If I have a gert van at the door that extoles the virtues of the greatest window cleaner that ever lived ( in my town) then If my windows look rubbish Its not hard for a bit of negativity to circulate around a small market town..
I think I need to do a few tests on the rear windows to see which of the suggestions works best for me..

CIF applied to a sopping wet bar towel works good without scratching.

WFP is the method. Using G101 on PVCu , do you dilute it or use it straight. How do you use it in a WFP on first cleans?

Personally I would put 2 inches of apc in a spray bottle then top uo with water and spray on to brush for each window as it soaps up quite a lot and you will need to rinse really well.

One thing to note mate you can get apc's cheaper from halfords and other places. Mike

you srpay about 10 sprays (put in in a spray bottle) and then apply to about 4 windows, no real need for pre soaking - type in magica one go on here, its the same stuff about a third of the price, defo worth buying some off ebay though mate

I typed in Magica One and looked at some Vids on Ewetube.... Looks like pretty clever stuff. It slaughtered Algae on a Wall... Im going to have a pop at an algae ridden wood panel fence that has been bugging me for a while..

virosol is good and cheap.simply put some in a pump sprayer(hand held or 5L PRESSURE SPRAYER) mixed with a bit of water and spray directly onto your wfp brush and scrub really well and rinse, rinse, rinse.

great for really dirty first cleans and minging frames.

for really ground in dirt then cif is good but you ll have to get up a ladder for upper windows and itll take you a lot longer so charge well.

best wishes
