and thats what it aint doing 
if we close the tap and let it run to see if it turns itself off then all it does is keep going and blow the connectors on the setup 
Have you 'wired' the pressure switch into the electric circuit? The pressure switch is at the bottom of the pump. Its in a small housing that sits on top of the pump head. It has 3 terminals. Ignore the middle one on a Shurflo pump.
If you have done that then the pressure switch is either faulty (contracts in the microswitch arched together) or you connectors are blowing off before the cut off pressure is reached.
To check the microswitch, unscrew the 3 screws that hold the housing in and carefully remove the housing - pse don't loose the components that activate the microswitch.
You will see the microswitch in the housing which you will be able to prise out. Test with a multimeter. If the switch is faulty Maplin will have a replacement. Get a 'handful' of terminal connectors as well.
