The Entry in the Companies House results page for a Company Search:
'Status: Active - Proposal to Strike off'
often results from the non filing of the annual return, (not the accounts), or it has failed to submit the necessary documentation to Companies House and the Registrar takes the view that it is defunct.

The Company itself may have applied to be struck of as it has ceased trading for more than three months or it is not longer needed.

Not the best way to end a Company if Tax is due, as HMRC want their pound of flesh and will not consent, with possible adverse consequences should the directors look to set up in the future.
There are severe late filing penalties for the accounts but these would not be payable as the Company would not exist and likely would not file accounts if the Registrar were to 'Strike Off'.

It will most likely be a late filing of an annual return, a document that needs to be sent off every year to update the company and directors details etc along with a cheque for ~£15.

I had this against my company when my accountant didn't send me the annual return form to sign which eventually resulted in hmrc freezing my business accounts  :o
