New starter training
« on: February 03, 2006, 02:06:08 am »
Im looking into basic training at the moment with a view to starting out in carpet and upholstery cleaning, ive looked back through the site search feature on training related topics several times and 3 possible courses  come to mind, 2 manufacturers courses (Ashbys and Prochem) and the NCCA training,i realise that any 1 training course cannot cover all the ground required within a couple of days and that additional training will be needed further down the road,im looking for a course that gives a good starting point to build on without being totally overwhelming to someone new to the industry, ive purchased an Ashby Ninja secondhand which in some ways sways me toward the Ashby training, ive read some good comments on Prochems courses, and the NCCA course appeals to me because it isnt run by a manufacturer with products to sell, i havent got a 3 sided coin handy so any advice would be greatly appreciated,                                          Andy

andy i bought a prochem machine so did the free day course which will be as good as any that the manufacturers do . then i did the IICR course at the national flood school which once passed allows you to jion the ncca as the course is quite comprehensive. the prochem course allows you to get some idea but the certified courses are far superior and well worth the money and of course is recognised throughout the industry unlike prochem and shbys who are just attendance. i certainly would not pay for the manufactures courses you would be better off going straight to the IICR course or NNCA hope this helps

Hi Andy,
Ive been trading for about a year, ive only ever been on the ncca course ,although i had a basic knowledge of carpet cleaning before that. Without trying to start the why be NCCA and why not debate again.. I will say being a member has more than paid for itself and the price of the two day course and subsequent membership is well worth it. I am also going to do the prochem courses in the future but im glad, with a view to marketing , I did the NCCA course first.

i would advise to do two courses.
do a manufacture one first like the ashbeys, prochem or extracta these are a good start and give you a bit of everything and you will get hands on training and get a feel for what this work is all about.

then if you decide its for you get yourself on the ncca or iicrc course these are more in depth technical courses.

i done the extracta one first and didnt know a thing about carpet cleaning at the time, and have to say a lot of it went over my head im sure if i done the ncca first i wouldnt of been able to take it all in properly.

i will be doing a iicrc course myself shortly as i now feel i have a reasonable knowledge of c/c and will be able to take it in and learn somthing from it.

The ashbys course is good.  If you bought a Ninja go for it.  Plus, you actually want someone to sell you stuff.  I bought about £1000 of equipment after the course and have not regreted it one bit.
Trying really hard to clean all of East London!
