orange brushes on Orek Orbitor/Floormac
« on: September 13, 2012, 06:10:17 pm »
Anyone use these for CC?

I have the black brushes that I use for agitation and recently bought the orange one.

They seem too stiff to use on carpets - can they be softened and flattened somehow?

use them on a concrete floor until the bend over slightly, the black brushes are way too soft

They do blue and green brushes in the US, think the order in stiffness goes like this:

Tan brush .........................................................part No 237048
Black shampoo brush .......................................part No 237049
Green everyday floor scrubbing brush .............part No 237057
Blue ceramic tile brush .....................................part No 237058
Orange heavy duty brush ................................part No 237047

I would love to try the green or blue on carpet for agitating and hard floor (small areas) but they dont sell them in the UK. And the ones in the US dont ship to over here :'(

Thats interesting Kevin - I'd like to get hold of the full set of brushes - I just bought an Orbiter from a company in auld Glasgae and paid 275 for it - best 275 ive spent on ebay for some time - they are very useful little machines! Its brand new but old if you see what I mean - it had never been out of the box and from the code it appears to be 10 years old! I tweeted Oreck and they confirmed the age - although they did not seem very certain about it!

BTW the jimmy in Glasgae has another three to sell!

Iv'e been having the same problem with the brushes, the black one seems a bit to light weight & the orange one seems abit to rough evan after using it on concrete dos'nt seem to be softening up.Just had an idea, seen this brush on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13-Inch-Universal-Scrubbing-Brush-Floor-Scrubber-/160340413496?pt=UK_HomeGarden_CLV_Cleaning_CA&hash=item2555088c38   Do you think this would work if I drilled holes in my oreck drive plate & bolted it to the brush?

Nice find Jeff, been looking for a while now for something like that - been wanting to do almost the same as you (only mentioned it on FB tearlier today).

Although I will be cutting the brushes off an oreck disc/ring and then affix that to the top of the brush you posted above. That way you can then remove it from the oreck as normal to use other attachments (as opposed to fixing it to the actual driveboard itself.

Edit: I know what you mean now, I thought you meant to the base of the machine (the orbitor itself lol). Yes that would be easier - just need to order an extra driveplate and simply screw it in like you said.

a brush like that might create too much resistance and burn out the motor. there is a reason the oreck brushes are a single outer ring, it has a tiddly little motor with no gears or capacitor

I see what you mean Mike.

Although in saying that I have been using various pads on the Oreck for carpets for a few years now - which have a much larger surface area than the standard thin brushes, and never had an issue with the motor yet. Having a brush on may actually be easier than a pad with less resistance?

I think depending on the bristle distance, it may actually glide a bit easier as opposed to 'digging in' and putting pressure on the motor. I think compact bristles may do this.

So on this basis I think its worth the risk!
