Free Gutter Checks
« on: August 15, 2012, 03:03:27 pm »
Just an idea, my boy is working with me on the windows and was thinking about getting him to knock some doors offering a free gutter check there and then while i carry on with the windows. We have got a harris pole with a camera on the top and a monitor on the bottom so he could show the home owner how much rubbish is in thier gutters and hopefully get some work from it. I think its a good idea what do you think .

i did this last winter and it worked well especially with the camera system as the customer gets to see the state of the gutters so already you get a sense of trust from them which really helps you get the job.

The camera is a cheap camera my kids had for the computer and the monitor is is one of those ones you have in a car for reversing which i got on ebay for £17.99  i built my gutter vac and fixed them onto it but then decided to fit them to a harris pole as it was easier to handle and show customers the state of their gutters.

ps  please excuse any spelling mistakes its now 3.30  in the morning and i have been playing darts since 5.30 last night and all i have written just looks like one big blur

We do a half price gutter health check for £5.

Works well as customers then know what if any areas of the gutters need cleaning rather than paying for the whole house if only a certain section needs doing, if the whole house needs doing we refund the health check price.

Brings in around £80 a month on checks then about £150 on cleans as most of the regulars have had it done in the last year

Takes about 10 mins max to check the gutters and make sure he down pipes haven't dropped a bit which is very common I find.

We would norm charge £25 per side on a norm 3 bed house, so £50 for a whole house if full but a section of say a metre or two is around £5 - £10

I bought a harris pole and screwed a plate on the top to attach the camera, to the camera had 18 metres of cable with it which is more than enough, i bought a car reversing monitor of ebay £17 .99 if you search for camera monitor on ebay the one i got is the one off buyer n-seven7 £17.99. i fixed this on the bottom of the pole by wrapping a jubilee clip arond the stem. All the leads and sockets come with the camera and monitor so i just connected them up and run them off a 12 volt battery [same one as in my back pack which i carry in a pouch on my belt.

Hat off to you Ron this sounds great.

But has anyone tried using big mirror on pole?

Like caravan towing mirror?

Or am I being silly :-[

No not being silly, works well on houses but not so good on some commercial as you would need a pair of binoculars to see the mirror.
