Prowler help.
« on: August 06, 2012, 10:09:48 pm »
I'm hoping some of the prowler owners can give me some help. Just got a used one and need to get to grips with a few issues.

Temp gauge. It doesn't work on my machine. It seems to be a type that has an output that opens a valve presumably to allow hot water out and cool water into the system. Do any of you know how I can test that system.  I'm hoping that once it works I can use this to dump water back into a fresh water tank. Would that be safe to do it that way or should I still use the manual bypass valve when I get the gauge working. Do any of you know where I can get a gauge in the UK.

At the moment I am being cautious and using the bypass valve which dumps hot water to waste but I'm hoping to also dump that to the fresh water tank too. But when should the bypass be open. Is it all the time or just when I am not using water.

Can the pump be gravity fed or do you need a 12v pump if a hose is not an option. Can anyone tell me a way connecting a 12v pump that won't make the pump run continuously.

First impressions are very good. I've been using a Maxx diesel for a couple of years and obviously this doesn't have the same muscle but it's not bad at all. I'm more than happy with the heat and vac. I'm amazed they are not even more popular than they are.

Thanks in advance Nevil

I thought you had someone in your back garden :-\

If a pump is needed, you need a pump with a demand switch.  No demand = pump off :)  However I'd guess if you're connecting the water pump straight to the tank outlet it will draw the water on its own.

Don't know any of the other stuff, JK is your man

Hi Jim.
Only me prowling in the garden. Got my telescope out and having a look about. Not too many clear nights lately so got to make the most of it.

I see what you mean about the demand switch. What I want to avoid is running the pump constantly. Even thought about fitting a header tank on with the twin float switches. But first I need to get my head around the basics.

Nevil, the guage you need is one of of these http://www.fwmurphy.co.uk/products/temperature/temperature_swichgage_20t_25t.htm

You should be able to run directly off the tank which is a lot less hassle than having to run off a 12 volt pump.

If you run a hose from the bypass on the front back to your fresh tank so that just a trickle is feeding through then you have no worries about the machine over heating. You can even forget about having to fit a new guage because all that does is open the rear bypass when the machine overheats.

Anyway to test that guage put the ignition on and put a screw driver across the 2 contacts on the front face. If its working you should hear the bypass solenoid open at the back. If not then it may just be the small black wire underneath which has come off.

Amtex do a really good range of truckmounts there's not just the prowler but they do look very straight forward.

I`ve never used the temp gauge. Can`t even see it on my machine. Apart from upholstery why would you need it?

Have you got a prowler? It's handy as its set to dump water at a temp you choose

Maybe you bought yours used and it's removed?
