Broke the lead off a customers window
« on: August 21, 2012, 12:57:32 pm »
Working away and the sill brush caught a crease in the lead and pulled it off the window the customer said he would glue it back so i knocked a fiver off the bill to cover the cost of the glue but i also told him if he can't fix it to let me know and i will get it sorted for him.

What would it cost to get a window re-leaded and who would do it  ??? ???

Thanks Paul

Did the same

Just use a strong glue like loctite superglue

Get the lead dead flat coat on glue, stick to original position hold for 2 mins thats it

Will last ages

Hi
I also find this happens when using a double trim sill brush , it's good on flat glass, but have to be so carefully on leaded, I put it down to the amount of splay in Brissells , slicing of lead , has happened to me a few times since using this brush, never happened with my old single trim supalite brushes , with very little splay, don't get me wrong , the dual trim sill brush is excellent , just gotta be carefully on leaded, or use a different brush

Hi
Dont use the sill on leaded i learnt the hard way to.
I repaired mine with some double sided sticky tape.i got it from glaziers and thats what they use.
Worst case buy a roll of lead and redo the whole strip onsite.

You can buy replacement strips of lead with their own sticky back that you peel off from some diy stores.

I use 'Sticks Like S""t' (clear silicon adhesive) to repair, also repair gutter leaks with it.
can be used in the wet so brill product to carry in van, a £6 tube from B&Q will last a year and earn you loads.
I charge £20 a gutter repair. Do any lead damage for £10.

ALWAYS warn new custy's of potential damage to lead windows before taking job on, that way its their responsability and you Can charge them for repairs.... More profit.

Yes mate, drips and leaks usually only occur on joints, so just fill joints both sides in/out with the silicon adhesive sealant. takes 10 mins, £20 a go job done.

No worries, I carry a tube in van all the time, Because 'Sticks Like S**t' is an Adhesive not just a silicone sealant it has uses for loads of things, Bloody strong stuff as well once its gone off!
Well worth carrying at all times, amazing the things you see on Custy's properties that can be repaired quickly and for profit.

always use a flocked brush on leaded(dual trim)esp if the lead is old.it doesnt matter if its a sill brush or not!if its flocked and dual trim itll glide much better!(less judder!!).

as for lead coming off its never happened to me yet in over 2 years WFP!! :D :D :D
price higher/work harder!

Better to use normal sylicon , joints  need to float other wise they will fail eventually, if you glue them the movement will break seal, what I do is take of gutter union, give it a good clean plus seal, put a bead of sylicon where seal sits , replace seal, then put bead of sylicon over each seal , reassemble and smooth over where it gets squeezed out , on either end , used to fit loads of gutter fascia, and this method works best.
