ok set up an IBC for harvesting rainwater .. now full of 23TDS rainwater.

Would prefer to purify it before going into van tank as no di on van system thinking of somehow pumping it from IBC thru some sort of filter set then onto di vessel then into van tank..... can anyone suggest a suitable low pressure pump ... maybe a household shower pump ?

what about buying a standard sub pump and using a y splitter return, so that 90% goes back to tank.

that way you can adjust the flow to the DI to where you need it.

Dunno about pump but at 23 TDS I'd just put straight through a DI vessel, will purify very easily...

On a recent visit to New Zealand we stayed with friends on a farm, over there they all harvest rain water for everything including drinking, each property has huge concrete underground tanks, if they run dry they just call in a Tanker to replenish tanks aprox $200 dollars a tanker, cheap as chips (no Mains water).

They couldn't believe how us Pommies actually pay the water boards for the water that is harvested off our own rooftops. Think about it, we do! We collect water for them and then we pay them to collect it!

Can't see why not.  It's the light that causes the problem I believe.

I have got a static in a glass connie and I just chuck a large sheet of dark tarpaulin over it and never had any build up.

Just saw your post ,I do rainwater harvesting into 1000 IBC same as you and have found water goes green so now I cover it up,the TDS doesnt seem to alter even when green! I use a hozelock water butt pump as i have water butts located away from IBC and top up as they fill.Hozelock pump works very well but I did need to cut a larger hole in top of IBC to get pump in which was very easy really.When i want oure I pump straight through pre-filters with a washable sediment filter then into DI,does 25 litres in 15 mins .
At moment I could do with more rain as I had to emtpy tank due to green colour so defintily coverup/paint. I havnt used houshold supply since last november when I first set up my system and Im well pleased with my efforts plus we have solar panels so when its sunny the pumps are for free as well but then they are only 300watts !

ps when I set up it didnt rain for three weeks !!

use a swimming pool pump
