when the roof overhangs too far just wondered if them ladder stand offs are any good or do most of you lean against the guttering .seen a lot of roofers do it that way dont think it looks very safe.

I use a ladder stand-off all the time to clear gutters.
I find the ladder feels more stable and it allows me to extend the ladder above the guttering height so you have a good hand hold on the ladder while clearing the gutters.

You can buy them from most of the diy stores B & Q, Wickes etc. or Screwfix.
Usually priced around £30-£40.
This is the one I use: http://reviews.wickes.co.uk/9987-en_gb/530039/reviews.htm

I bought mine on EBAY (brand new) John about three years ago and it's still going strong.  I think I paid about £25 - £30.

John,

There normally a standard one size fits all. I got the ove that allows you to fit it over a down pipe, great bit of kit.
