im sick of taking the machine upstairs. it has two 3 stage 1400 watt vacs(hope i got that right) im going to get a remote control fitted but how much hose could i run from it before losing a lot of suction

When I was using HWE I ran 50' from a similar setup without any noticable difference Dan.
John Martin will probably have it worked out to the nearest unit though

I regularly use 2 x 10 mt hoses on my Twin vac machine.
By the time the tool is on the carpet airflow is restricted and there is virtually no difference.
I rarely take my machine into the house and find that 20mt reaches all but the largest mansions.
I have been known to put another 15 mts on this making 35 mt altogether.
This is then starting to make a difference and a couple more drying strokes are required.
Why bust a gut when you don't need to?
You will need some sort of anchor for the top of the stairs to stop the hoses running down again. I use a bungee coed and a towel for padding.
I don't bother with a remote- I found it more hassle than not.

I pretty much agree , 50ft works well enough , perhaps occasionally up to 75 for that awkward converted attic or what ever ...

2 stage vacuum motor - 15 ft.
3 stage vacuum motor - 25 ft.
4 stages of vacuum (2 - 2 stages) = 50 ft.
6 stages of vacuum (2 - 3 stages) = 75 ft.
7 stages of vacuum (2/2 stages with a 3 stage booster) = 85 ft.
8 stages of vacuum (4 - 2 stages) = 100 ft of 1-1/2" ID vac hose.
9 stages of vacuum (3 - 3 stages) = 125 ft
12 stage of vacuum (4 - 3 stages) = 150 ft

Probably plays some complex roll in the overall performance , but you rarely hear it mentioned , perhaps because its negligible and would rarely be a negative factor , you are nearly always be horizontal or from top to bottom in recovery .

22.5m used a fair few times, including today with no problem and great results. Machine outside as it was an apartment so hose came in through patio doors, although window will be just as good. Remote and clear tarp to keep the rain at bay.

Using 1.5" hose, 50ft really is the limit on a twin vac machine such as you've mentioned (5.7" vac units).  The drop in performance from 25 to 50 is very noticeable.  The drop from 50 to 75 is diabolical and is way below an acceptable level to clean carpets with as a professional.

The vac configuration might make a difference on the longer runs ...
Those with a series machine have only 100cfm which will be dropping off with increased length .

I'd say that 22.5 is as long as I'd go but I've cleaned at this a fair few times and always good results and with plenty of dry passes carpets don't feel noticably worse than with shorter length. I only have a twin vac Alltec Advance but this does have parallel vac's, which I understand to be a bit better than the old type series.

I run 2 inch hose apart from about 4 metres of 1.5 to the wand, simply because this is how it was supplied from Alltec.

Can't say I've looked at my vac gauge when using, I'm always too far away
