Ian Shepard again.
« on: May 31, 2012, 06:55:00 pm »
Hi Ian.  I've just got the one shot controller, but the instructions dont mention anything about aerial placement. Will it work ok with the aerial in the van, or does it need mounting on the roof?

Thanks.

Hi Lee

Sorry for the delay in replying I have been out of the office for a couple of days. I suspect you have the ultimate one shot with the roof mount aerial.

We have tested the receiver on these at 120 meters +. As for positioning the aerial I would recommend it is fitted externally to the roof to give the best range.

The mount is supplied with a gland and you can drill a hole then use the gland to seal the hole. You could also run the cable out between the door seals which would allow the vehicle to be locked.

We are looking for a suitable mag mount, the ones we have used in test were not strong enough to hold the aerial mount while driving.

It will work mounted in the van, however you may need to leave a door or window open if you do as the radio signal may not pass through the metal panels of the vehicle.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Ian. I saw the gland nut, but where does it attach to the aerial? There isn't an obvious place for it to clamp to the antenna.

Hi Lee

Here goes lets try paint a picture.

There should be a gland with the kit- At the moment we would suggest drilling a hole in the roof of the vehicle.

Take the ring nut off the top of the gland

Push the gland through the hole

The aerial pushes through the gland the box on the bottom of the aerial will be inside the vehicle.

The gland nut drops over the aerial and tightens - this will give you a water proof seal.

hope this helps - Let me know if you need anything else

I get it now, the hole in the gland but looked to big for the aerial, but it closes up enough when it done up. Thanks for your help.

It's installed, well it's connected and hanging from the wires in the back of the van  ;D, will be running it from next week.

One last thing, are the remotes available separately? I'm boud to loose of break it at some point.

Hi Lee

Yes we can replace the remote each controller has a receiver set to a different frequency, All we would need is the controller serial number on the back off the control and the remote can be replaced.

Do you know what they cost? I am considering getting one as a backup, rather than waiting until I loose it  ;D

For a good quality long range keyfob remote, thats actually a good price,.. do a bit of research & you'll find very few keyfobs with a range of more than 100mtrs, and it goes without saying that the useable range is less than half the advertised maximum range.  ;)
