we're currently doing at most one house external window cleaning per day when we do a moving house clean. at the moment we clean the windows whilst inside by doing the old reach around and simply using a cloth and a spray, and then if there is one we can't reach then we use the ladder and a squegee.

this for the most part works, however it is often slow and sometimes there is windows we just can't reach.

i'm hoping for some suggestions for a simple set of tools we can try that will keep costs fairly low, but help decrease how long this takes to do.

from what i've seen i like the idea of a back pack system as this is fairly small (we're limited on space in the van).

any suggestions? as this would be for moving house cleans where we are left to get on with it we'd be able to use their taps inside and out if this makes any difference.

Please, this is the window cleaning section; keep it clean.

And if you want something a little more serious, you could invest in a backpack, a pole with a brush (won't need to be expensive with only one house per day), and a small DI bottle to purify your water, and a couple of 25 litre barrels.

Shopping list would look like this:

Backpack
Pole and brush
Small DI bottle
Resin for DI bottle
2 x 25 litre barrels.
TDS Meter (to keep an eye on your water purity; I work upto a TDS of 10)

This will provide you with a starter waterfed pole system and you could easily clean a standard semi's windows using this.  Probably in about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how bad they are.

Total cost would be under £300 (maybe a lot cheaper, I don't know to be honest).

thanks tosh. i'll have a look into those items and prob post back for advice if the ones i've found are good or there is better alternatives.

dave: i've tried with no success. no window cleaner wants to go the random one off locations each day, to clean a single house/flat for a price a customer wants to pay with less then a weeks notice. it's understandable that companies don't this work.

Reading your original post. Ladders and trad gear will be the cheapest and quickest way.

First cleans are notorious for being a pain, yes you can get them perfect at a cost of time.

If you want to invest in anything. Get some decent trad tools, decent alu pole and practice with a wag tail.

As Dave0123 has said, if you want it done quick, get a windy to do 'em. There's a cleaning firm near us that calls us to do the windows when they've got EOT cleans. It is an option. Compare the time you need and what that costs, and work out if it's a good idea. HTH

Or a cheaper way would be to collect rain water in a barrel and use it, if your only doing one
property a day it should keep you going.

If you have access to a tap you may not even need a backpack. Just a WFP , DI cannister and a hose.

the issue i have is i literally have no idea what the difference between the extras at the bottom of the page are and what would be most sensible to get. can anyone have a look and let me know what i should look at and if this would work for our needs?

I would get all them extras at the bottom. Also i'd go for the smallest/cheapest DI, cheapest brush out of the options they have and go for the 20ft pole rather than the 17ft one.

I'd go for the 28ft as it's not a lot extra and it covers 95% of all work.

Also, 1.9ltrs of resin, if DI only, ain't going to last no time at all before needing refilling which will be a pain in the rear. I'd go for the 4.6ltr.

Hose, me, I'd get the 30m.

The idea of using rain water is a good one as the TDS will be a lot, lot lower than tap water. All you'd need is a cheapo Ebay pump at around £20. Ebay - 280955194939.

Brush, I agree, get the cheapest.
