As a window cleaner the only way you can function properly is with regular, repeat custom. You need to offer, and insist upon, a regular cleaning schedule, be it monthly, 6 weekly, what ever you decide is best for you.

If people want to ring you as and when their windows are dirty they are classed as "one off's" and should be priced accordingly.

When you canvass, or when someone enquires about having a window cleaner you simply ask them if they're going to be a regular monthly / six weekly, etc clean; the vast majority will say yes as that is what they'll expect anyway.

Good luck ;D

you could think outside the box and have a round chock full of "as and when " "call when you  feel " customers ( id admire your patience !)

you would be a modern day GHANDI type of windie

I have a friend who has a well established business and it runs this way.

He is in his mid-60's now, and his work is around 20 miles from where he lives. He waits for phone calls from his customers, and waits until he has a day's worth, then goes out and does them all on the same day. The thing is, he has enough customers to be able to do this and makes a very good living from it.

Good for him but he is definately the exception to the rule.

I like a good book full of regular work; I like to be able to plan ahead.

i admire that way of working, much less stress than the usual round .would think it would take at least ten years to set it up that way tho

I have quite a few customers that phone when they want windows cleaned. Its not an issue for me as my round is so compact I can simply fit them the very next day if I liked.

save yourself the hassle mate!

most of my work is turn up and clean roughly every month/2 months.that way you can be far more flexible and overall its less stress.

leave a SAE or bank details so they can pay online or if its compact local work then collecting is good for cashflow.

i do have certain customers i text/phone the night before for access but its only a handful and i usually make them the first job of the day.

once you have a solid customer base and the customers know how you operate you should have very few problems if you do a good job and have a professional attitude to your work.
price higher/work harder!

It's weird for me as most of my custies have locked gates and access issues, when I first canvass i go out of my way to communicate the way we work and we do ring or text the night before,if I get a messer I do pressure them to have the clean and I tell them they have not given me sufficient notice to fill their slot and this usually reminds them of my opening conversations with them,if they do more than once without a reasonable excuse I drop and replace

If it was a £10 size house, id charge £12.

If it was a £20 size house, id charge £25.

I dont go crazy with 1 off houses prices, I like to be reasonable  ;)
