Does it not mean all your customers downloading the app and topping it up if they are not barclays customers?

i can see con written all over this (not from barclays, but tricksters trying to mug people off.

would you really put in your bank details into someones phone ?

I would rather send a cheque and I hate them, im all for tech but this is not one I feel is safe enough just yet.

Mobile (as in card pdq) I agree, but anyones mobile, no way.

I couldn't be bothered with it either.  Can my brick of a phone do it?  I'm with the Halifax too.

But I think if you use a range of methods, you can reduce or stop collecting:

SAE
Bank Transfer
Standing Orders
This Ping thing

I only collect from two compact estates I work in; the rest is done by SAE or bank transfer.  I collect twice a month, tops.

I have to say that if the likes of Barclays are putting their weight behind it, then it has to be a good thing
I agree to an extent that security could be an issue, but it wasnt so long ago that most people would not use internet banking from their home pc.
Most people(older generation probably not)  use the t'interweb for home shopping without a second thought,so this has got to be the future
We use it already, and are actively encouraging our customers to adopt too. This combined with bacs payments means no collecting, ever, for us.

It's not for me as I estimate up to half my round doesn't have a mobile signal!

I'm hoping that as the postage is going up that more people will either do an online transfer or go into their bank and do a transfer

all of the other banks will be watching with keen interest.  as soon as its proven to be relatively risk free every bank will be running it.  5 years time majority of our customers will be paying us this way.  p.s you cant see each others bank details.  plus why would you be worried about that anyway, as if you currently do bank transfers you have to give the customers your details anyway

I dont have a problem with my customers having our bank details, the problem is using a mobile phone to take payments.
I can understand a mobile pdq machine as people are used to them in shops ect, but right now not a mobile phone it is hard enough getting them to pay online sometimes, asking them to put in their details on your mobile I think would push some of them over the edge, it is defo worth a try though as this is the way things are going.

I think you may have misunderstood how it works.  As I understand it, the customer sends the money using their mobile.  Using the app supplied on their phone, they send the money to your mobile number.  Barclays tie the lot up behind the scenes, moving the money directly from their bank account into yours.

I think it is a great add on to get people to pay.
I send a reminder text after 1 week to credit transfer custards, then they have to log on to the pc and then into their bank to send the money.
This way I send the text , they open and read it and then from the phone they send my money.
The nice thing is they will not miss any of eastenders.

Hey Roy, Im going to be using Payatrader.com . I got a demo of it the other day. You can get home at the end of the day and send everyone a bill via email with the paying system on it. Or they just go to your web site and pay. Its all logged including address etc as you are requested to fill in fields.
It also alerts you to payments and send auto reminders. Its well cool.

I used this with a few customers, it works nicely. This system is now available for non Barclays customers, all they need is the app for the phone as payment is made using mobile number to mobile number. The process of set up is finalised either in bank in person or by special code received on phone app which you then tap into ATM machine. When you receive a payment it tells you the name of sender and amount, it also allows you to see your balance.
Apparently, they use this method in some African countries as a common method of payment
