That famous picture of about eight men sitting on a girder high up eating their lunch is entirely genuine. Thats actually taken when they were building the Rockerfeller not the Empire State but it could have been any of the skyscrapers.
The men building it just walked round on the girders with no safety harnesses, wearing hobnailed boots.

you dont see many cradles now using block and tackle rope system, even the bloke on the bosun chair isnt absailing but is using ropes and pulleys, this is the way i first did rope work and it was very physical, just pulling the cradle up 12 floors was a job on its own i have also done my fair share of ledging 15 floors up i know it was very dangerous but i really liked working that way we had some good laughs
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

Those pictures are frightening.

I have cradled the moat house hotel and various office blocks and hospitals in glasgow on an electric cradle , even been up on one of those old pump up cradles at the johnnie walker plant in govan years ago.

Those pictures are just unbelieveable though.

I am sure i have seen pictures from the far east of wee asian  guys up massive tower blocks and skyscrapers on bamboo scaffolding.

health and safety would go mad today :o
