If you are serious and not larking---

You can't just turn it on when you feel like it during the winter it needs 12 month marketing.

Anyone can clean carpets - some make money at it.

A mate and me started a windy round from scratch. Bought one of the first Gardiner pole systems for £850 and within a week or two hard footslogging we got 120 customers in under a month. It went on from there. You won't get that turnover with ccing in anything like that time and it will cost you 3 times that for secondhand machinery and other kit.

God must love stupid people---He made so many.

It was more h20 looking like wind up ;D

I'm not really sure how well it would work as an add on as it can take a lot of commitment, also it can be very hard work physically.

The other thing to think about is your location, if your in a rural area or small town it can be difficult getting enough work.

Sorry if all that sounds negative.

Have to agree entirely with Helen,
Dont be fooled into thinking you will be busy carpet cleaning during the winter months - Jan / Feb usually very slow (that includes established ccs) starts to pick up in spring, I know of cc's who are still struggling...

If I was adding services cc would be at the end of the list   :o

I think i am looking more to keep some form of cash /income coming in during my lean times,ie winter months i don't want it to take over and make lots of money, but now i am getting a picture building up i can see for the outlay and commitment it may be better to put money away for winter and just ride it out?
i have made an enquiry to day with ncca regarding training courses,i will look at ebay for second hand machines,do some more research over the spring/summer and probably make a decision

cheers for every ones in put, including ian h20 ;)

Having done both carpet cleaning and window cleaning and run them side by side for many years (with staff on windows), I really cannot see why a window cleaner would "presume" they will pick up carpet cleaning work in the winter, which would bring in more than actually working their existing rounds through the winters months and/or expanding them? Whatever your schedule times on window cleaning, be it monthly 6 weekly bi monthly, this is nice regular income through the winter months (unless of course you are fair weather cleaners :)) The time to make your money in window cleaning is from April through to October and then just cruise through the winter months. :) If you have been successful in doing this already them why not just carry on and expand with what you are good at?

cos Bobs getting on a little these days and wants a nice warm indoor job during winter cos of his joints  ;D

 ;D ;D know the feeling

Im busy a lot of the year, but its dead as a do do in Jan/Feb.
People have no money that time of the year for carpets, apart from spillage work.

Thats the time cc'ers take a holiday, but I have never got around to take a holiday myself, but its probably the best time to do so.
