Thats what the grit bins are for, I just pull up to one and fill up one of those storage box things you get from Ikea.
The stuff goes a long, long way, you don't need to chuck down shovel loads of the stuff, a handful thrown along pavement/path/patio is fine.
And it might be illegal, I don't know, but I was bidding a passing bobbie good morning as I was filling it up, and he didn't say anything
