Help with Quote
« on: March 29, 2012, 05:50:49 pm »
Hi all, I have been to quote for some blocks of flats today and could do with some advice. We do little in the way of this type of work as mainly its houses (domestic) for us.

The quote is for 11 blocks of flats varying in size from 8 - 16 flats per block. The window sizes vary a little but the average size I would say is just over 1 metre squared. I have counted the doors as if they are 2 windows. In total there are 791 units. Can anyone suggest a fair price for each unit?

Another way of quoting it is to quote how long the job would take.......it's difficult for me to say but I think it's a decent days work for 2 men (myself and one member of staff).

Thanks for any advice....

When I quote flats I normally go in at a "price per unit" ie £7/8 per flat and communals are "free" so to speak. Obviously this doesnt apply to all blocks, but works for me on 95% of quotes.

Dont forget you can earn a good hourly rate on blocks of flats (no travelling etc)
You can't polish a turd

With jobs like this I think its best to work out how many days then multiply by your day rate.

Do you think you can do it in 1 day ... blimey thats some going  :o

Personally I would work on 2 days so if u finish a little sooner then its a bonus esp if u got some residential close by you can jump onto.

yes I am thinking for 2 of us we can do it in a day - like I said the windows are small and the blocks are not that large either. Expecting the first clean to take longer though

I always think that with jobs like this it's not a bad thing if your price per unit is a little lower than you would normally charge for an individual flat; a large block of flats like this is worth a very good hourly rate. As they say, buying in bulk is cheaper than buying a single item.

This exactly.

I recently quoted on quite a large block. 4 windows per unit average, 360 units.

My price £2.90 per unit. (calculated at 2 men/ 3 days)

Winning contractors price..........90p per unit.

They are welcome to it.
