I don't think any one will write a full guide but I will chip in with what i know...

each key phrase has its own campaign so 'Wigan carpet cleaners' is a different campaign to 'wigan upholstery cleaners'

the landing page of 'Wgan carpet cleaners' is your carpet cleaning website page, the landing page of  'wigan upholstery cleaning' is your website upholstery page

set your geographical area to  the area you want to work.... don't leave it at the default setting of Uk as your ad will show everywhere

Set the times your advert shows shows so people searching at 1am don't click it.

use negative key works so people who search things like 'cheap carpet cleaners' don't see your ad.... (negative key words are word you chose not to activate your ad)

its a massive subject best to search google for a blogger

I second everything Mike has already said.  I'd just add...

I'd also split cleaning and cleaners too, ie carpet cleaners and carpet cleaning into two different ad groups, that means you can headline the ad with Carpet cleaning AREA or Carpet cleaners AREA, which will increase your quality score and therefore lower your cost per click too.  Ensure your pages also contain the Keyword phrases you for the keywords on your ads, again helps with SEO AND ad quality score and therefore the cost per click.

I was told by Yoast to SEO the home page for your BRAND NAME, and SEO the internal pages for the service.  So also set up an ad group for your company name and these Ads should go to your home page.

Hope that helps Simon.

Al.

Ooops, forgot to mention to set up Analytics on your site to see the paid clicks information too.

I did the Google Engage for Agencies training that Google offer, just so I could get the 'inside track' on Google Ad's.  Google have given me some £50 vouchers for me to pass on.  They can only be used by NEW advertisers though, or those with less than (i think) two weeks old and not used the account.  Anyone wanting one just drop me a note to allanjnr@chemdryexperts.co.uk and I'll send you one of the voucher codes.  For the cynics out there there isn't a kick back for me either.  The vouchers are designed to be given out by adword agencies who have done the training, to encourage them to help people start using Adwords through the agency where they would take a margin on future google ad spending.  I have no intention of starting an agency so someone may as well get use of the vouchers.

Hi Allan,

Thanks very much. Anytime is fine. I feel a bit embarrassed. When i listed my various websites I wasn't suggesting that you send me a promotional code for each one at the expense of other people, though I can see now reading back how it might have looked that way.

Rather i was just providing background information in much the same way that people who post on here will often list their various domains as part of their signature.

Regards Michel

All voucher codes sent now, even all yours Michel  ;).  Just one left again so here it is, up for grabs to the first person who tries to spend it...

ES2V-VSYC-6PFM-M4KU-PMQ   £50

JUST REMEMBER, only applies to new accounts not already done advertising.  Once it's attempted to be used it's invalid to anyone else.  Anyway, I think I saw a sponsored advert at the top of the forum from Google offering a voucher, but if it's not there just ask and I'll ask for some more.

Thanks Alan, for emailing those codes just now.

I am I right in thinking that it would be better to get each area website its own google account rather than just doing different campaingns for for different areas within one account. As you mentioned in one of your posts above.

John, yes I am based in Shepherds Bush but I cover the whole of the western half of London. As my kids live in Weybridge and Shepperton with their mums I also do a lot of work in Surrey too as this ties in with seeing them.

I used to be fairly active on these boards a few years ago but this is the first time I have posted for ages. I have been fitting since 1973 and am a member of the NICF>

If you want to use the vouchers you'd need to set up separate accounts. To be honest I'd create a campaign for each of the various areas/sites on one account, just for ease switching /copying common parts between them and using the tools within Google and analytics too.  If you do the Engage for Agencies we were talking about then Google do then allow you to manage multiple accounts from one log in, which is what I do for our multiple businesses I run campaigns for but I keep all the carpet cleaning businesses campaigns in one account and each other business as separate accounts of their own, but all managed through the Multiple Sign in tool for Engage for Agencies 'graduates'.  If you're serious about running your own Google Ad campaign I'd highly recommend the Engage, then they offer even more, which is mind blowing stuff beyond me.

Hi Allan

I've signed up for the Google Engage for Agencies training, just out of interest how did you find the course and how long did it take you roughly?

Hi Richard

It's aimed at people who would go on to sell Google Ad's so a lot of the stuff is about selling google ads, how to put a campaign proposal together to present to prospective clients etc, nut the small insights into Google ads themselves made it worthwhile.  Most of it is just short videos, and at the end of the video you get a code to unlock the next one, and you can't just skip through them.  I just put a few evening to one side and blitzed thorough them.  I'm thinking about doing the "Licenced Reseller" stuff, as that, apparently, teaches you so much more.  I'm keen to find out more about the "remarketing" stuff too and I think some of that is taught if you do the reseller stuff.

Hope that helps,

Al.
