350 or 500litre
« on: February 20, 2012, 02:33:37 pm »
Finally taking the plunge and getting van system fitted after being trad for 25 years . the cleaning warehouse wolverhampton are fitting for me but i can't decide on 350 or 500 litre tank. won't be cleaning everything wfp but am i better off just getting 500 litre anyway. getting gardener 25 slx pole . is there any spares or other things like spare brush heads connection protestors etc that i should get to avoid later problems. Any advice would be welcome as i don't want to rush in and make stupid mistakes.

If your going through the expense of a fitted system then definately 500, Im a sole trader and only have a 300l tank due to current van but next van change will defo be getting at least a 500. plus as you will be doing alot of 1st cleans you can turn the water up and not have to worry.

if your a 1 man band prob get away with 350,
but if have space and load carrying ability I'd go
bigger. you don't have to fill it more than need,
but got a buffer then.

when I got reels brushes etc from Gardiners just
asked them what spares would need, the
suppliers are the professionals, after all, so
should be able to tell you.

good luck with the transition, it's a good move.

I would definitely go for 500 if you have big enough van. You say you will only do some WFP and others trad, which I think you may change your mind once you get used to wfp.
you can always fill only 350l :)
I have 250l tank and believe me that makes my headache every day.
Can't wait to get a van..

cheers viktor your probably right about cleaning more and more wfp but don't want to rush in upsetting my custys before i have mastered using it. Think the secret of being good window cleaner is doing thorough job trad or wfp but would like to change over where possible. in reflection i think 500 is definitely right as i have 10 plate citroen dispatch which would carry tank easily. Anyone know more about cleaning warehouse systems

Hi j timms,

If space isn't an issue, then the larger tank would be OK.  A smaller tank will of course leave more room for your equipment.

However, if you're working on your own and doing a normal number of hours per day, you may not need 500L if you use something to save water efficiently e.g. trigger or Aqua-dapter (you probably wouldn't save enough with an inline tap, so if only using a tap or kinking the hose I'd probably go for the bigger tank).

http://blog.aqua-dapter.co.uk/2011/06/i-have-a-350l-tank-and-ive-never-drained-it-yet-by-st1allstar/

We have a few customers with 250L tanks who find it lasts them the whole day.

If you can use a smaller tank you will also carry less water and save on fuel too, but you could also only partially fill a larger tank if you knew you wouldn't need the full 500L each day.

Hi Victor.

You've been cleaning windows for 25 years so your customers will cut you a little slack. Keep them informed if need be with minimal information. Practice on your own home, friends and family. Do them over and over again even if they are clean as it will help you to develop a rythme and technique which will make you look like a dab hand at it.
My son in law did trad for a few years and very quickly picked up the WFP technique.

Don't let negative thoughts about your abilities with a new method worry you too much. Just do it. You will have problems to start with. Some have suggested that your last trad clean should be a preperation clean for WFP ie., clean the frames manually etc so it will make your life easier the first time out.

You are going to get the occasional customer moan and you might loose a couple. These days trad cleaners are getting harder to find, and most that still work our area aren't taking on any more customers.

Good luck

possibly but what's the point if its not being used?

As someone has mentioned saves space and fuel.
