I have lived in two other countries as well as the U K and believe we get ripped off. These companies take no risk, its money for jam for them. My daughter has a car worth 450 pound she pays 1500 pa with an excess of 250 if she wrote it off they would pay here 200 quid .
? its does not add up.In South Africa your p.a. pay may not exceeds the value of the can.Insurance is not compulsory. So insurance brokers work for there money. Car theft and brake ins are a lot higher than the U K yet insurance is lower and ant one that has licence can drive any car.Your licence has the law behind it,it gives you the right to drive. If my daughter drove my car I would not pay more as the car is insured not the driver. This never cost me more than 350 pound a year for a sports car.WE are been ripped off big time. Our Government needs to look after the voter for a change as companies have no vote.
We pay for other peoples claims, simple as that!
The insurance industry are a business out there to make money, so every-one's premiums are based on two things- that person's own personal circumstances & how much the industry paid out in claims the previous years. It's also not about how much a car is worth, it about how much damage it can do to other things & people.
As their costs go up year on year so do the premiums. & with this "claim culture" gaining momentum like a bobsleigh, I can't see any reversal for some time, if at all.
IMO, every insurance policy should have a ZERO whiplash claim disclaimer on it, that would help a great deal.
