hiya Petski dont waste your money on it ... I do alot of commercial & was told by one company that I had to go with them safecontractor which I did they said to would meet me at a job to watch me so I could get accrediated & get the certifecate no-one watched me & i got the certifecate and stayed in a draw  which was costing me more & more money each year as I said in a recent post health & safety is common sense why would you need a cert for that I still get contracts without it as long as you got liability insurance & maybe a method statement & a risk assessment thats fine hope this helps  cheers Rich !!!

We were safe contractor accredited for 3 years. No one asked to see it and most people didnt know anything about it.
The same with Chas we have been Chas accredited for 3 years and have not got any more work from it.
At the end of the day all the are bothered about is the price you put it for the work.

I have got to get a safe contractor accreditation or lose one of my commercials.
I have contacted Safe contractor and they said they do not observe you they audit your company.
That is a completely different to what you have been told or what you went through.

If the commercial was worth keeping and makes well over what SC costs per year then you haven't wasted your money :)
We had issues when we were members, and had it confirmed that as long as the "main contractor" is SC registered, then it doesn't matter if who "actually" does the job is or isn't, they just come under the umbrella of the main contractor. ???

I have looked into this just this week. I met a pest control fella on a farm I clean and he had the logos all over his van. He told me, that bigger companies actually look for someone safe contractor registered in their area, and then ask you to go and quote.

I suppose, if you can afford it, you gotta be in it to be asked!?

We are Safecontractor accredited for the sake of a few hundred I think it is worthwhile. As they audit your company, it forces you to take stock of procedures, etc.

We use it a selling point for our services as it shows we take HS seriously - Which is surely a plus.

Hi,

We are just doing Safecontractor and CHAS at the moment. I've never bothered in the past but increasingly the bigger organisations are asking for it before you can tender for anything.

Next on the list is constructionline and contractor plus.

Cheers,

Huw

As I said before H&S is just common sense who needs a certificate to prove it I do quite a few big offices & one of the biggest management companys going & not once have they asked me for a H&S certificate only want to see I have public Liability Insurance & sum want a risk assessment & method statement I was with safecontractor for 3 years I think & they give ya all that crap about going on a list thingy where companys can see your on it & get more work which didnt get 1 job from it I think you do get discount from yellow pages & a few lil perks which was a load of rubbish so all you who have spent ya money on it you know its a waste & you shouldnt say its great & get peeps to spend there money on it as I bet youve had nothing in return from joining !!!!!!!!!!!!! :-\
