Truckmount thermostat controller... help needed
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:13:58 am »
I am re building a SteamGenie Rebel 45 (US) Chemspec Hydrofoil (UK) and have noticed that the thermostat controller is broken. It appears that the thermocouple has snapped that goes from the thermostat controller to the water box. My question is this. Can I fit any thermostat controller on the machine, lets say for example a Prochem one or does it have to be the same as what has broken. The problem with this is that the machine was built in 1990 and Steam Genie no longer exist.

As long as the temp range and the current switching requirements are ok I would think it is OK.
God must love stupid people---He made so many.

Update on first post.

It is the capillary tube that is broken, a long thin brass tube with a temperature sensing tip that read the water temp in the water box sending an electrical current to the thermostate at the front of the machine. When the water temp is up to set temp the thermostate opens the skinner valve to dump hot water, letting cold in.

just to add... I doubt you will find the exact part from a 23yrs old truckmount now, but you can get mechanical heat sensitive valves that do the same job of opening at a set temp i would think fitting one of these would be simpler option and they are a lot less prone to breaking

Thanks for all your responses guys. GOOD NEWS... having opened the part and got the manufactuar name and part number I have located the exact same part for just over £50. I am vell impressed. Thats what I like about the Steam Geni machines the parts are mainly from all differnt manufactuars and if you work out the maker , get a seriel number then just look on the web and jobs a good en. Here is the part http://www.plccenter.co.uk/Buy/JOHNSON%20CONTROLS/A19ABC12 and a pic here

All truckmounts are the same. Apart from heat exchangers there is nothing specifically made for them. They are all parts from other industries.

Very true, good thing restoring a machine is you know how to fix it each and every time.
