I use 1and1.co.uk they are good price wise and have decent features for the low cost
a low cost website will not make you any return, it is low cost for a reason
Hmmmm. Mine is a DIY website, therefore free, and I pay £12 a year for hosting. And after the paid for rankings, I'm the first top ranking in my local area on google search. I've had two jobs from it this week.
Tosh, do you know what you are doing with a website ? and do you paid for rankings ?
No, I don't pay for rankings and I haven't a clue what I did. I got some free website software, bought a domain name (£12 a year) and created a stupid website; I even had a picture of me with a blow up doll on it; I just wanted to see how to upload photos.
I then forgot about it and eight months later I got a call from a woman wanting a quote and she mentioned my website (still with the blow up doll picture on it), and I was top. I updated the website and although it doesn't bring in vast amounts of work, I regularly get calls from it.
I have listed it with Google places; which is free and a bit of a palaver; but even prior to that I was top ranking of the non paid sites.
So, mine was a free DIY jobbie. Roy Harding, a member of this site, paid for his site to be done - no doubt from a professional company - and it does look better than mine, but it's quite low down in the rankings (mine is first, his is fifth).
I'm leaving my site as it is. It looks basic and DIY; which I quite like; I don't want it to look too corporate since I suspect the 'flashyness' may put some folk off. I know when I look for a tradesman, I like them to be knowledgeable, but a little bit dull and boring - that's the type of tradesman I trust - I don't want a 'flash harry' messing with my electrics and plumbing; just a safe pair of hands. So that's the image I tried to convey in my website.
Anyway, I haven't a clue how the rankings work.
