Frozen pipes and pump
« on: January 15, 2012, 11:18:19 am »
If I cut the supply of water at the tank and turned the pump on for a few seconds could enough water be removed, without damaging the pump.

Cheers all

you would be better disconnecting the input side of the pump as well other wise it will create a vacuum in the pipe.
then a few seconds on will empty anything in the pump.

hey Darren. I disconnected it from hose reel, and  undid the glass filter I have before the pump and drained it from there. whether I got all the water out remains to be seen! :S

oil filled radiator on full setting(1500w)costs me about £2 a night but no frozen pipes, pumps, hoses or water.van is nice and toasty in the morning and no ice to scrape off the windscreen!!

im starting later today(10am).give chance for the frost to thaw a bit on the ground!! ;) ;D ;D

im also taking an extra flask filled with hot water in case my jets freeze at the brush head!easy to defrost then.

regards

last winter put heater in van. haven't bothered yet this year, filters aren't in van anymore, so less expensive! and not been that cold where I am yet.

daz, heater on full? that really necessary? seems bit of waste.....an expensive way of defrosting van! having just on or above should work, and be a lot cheaper. unless it gets to minus 15 again!

Didn't realise it was going to be this cold. Forgot about heater. Pipes frozen and thawing with a heater now.

Silly me.

It's because we r all used to this mild weather we've had when it suddenly freezes it's panic stations.
