depends what you want out of business. for me keeping it simple and making reasonable amount is better than maybe making slightly more, but more hassle and loosing flexibility.

but that being said, having company is nice, and can help motivate you more.

totally agree.

Employing people has it's upsides and down sides

Plus side time freedom to get on with business and leverage and a few other things
downside, staff can be a pain in the butt the list can be endless.

I have employed in the past, and found it too much of a headache with being let down, and having to spend twice as much time in collecting their wages etc. I therefore prefer to work alone.

I had a little taster at employing when broke my ankle few months back, thought id want get big round and make more money but its not what i want now as flexability gone and wasnt happy when out for a few hours then it pes down rest of day and still got pay wages,so im going be a one man band,keep taking work on until i have a weeks worth to much and sell a weeks work

the problem with employing is staff.

its not very often they can think for the selves.

staff will ring with problems like backpacks not working, what shall i do, things like this can get you down if you let them.

when its your business, backpack not working take it a part refit wire on battery. no issues.

i have 4 guys that work for me, im lucky that two are great guys, they can think for them selves and will go the extra mile to get the job done and keep things running smoothly.

the other two do what they have to do.

i enjoy employing, but thankfully im not the sort of person who stresses to much.

The thing that would worry me if you worked alone for ever is that once you retire, or are too ill to work you stop earning.

I'm 43 now and by the time I reach 50 I hope to be able to take a step back and travel more than we do now, safe in the knowledge that I'm still earning.

I guess you just have to take the rough with the smooth when it comes to staff; and when you get a good 'un pay him properly and keep him.
