Small van questions
« on: January 04, 2012, 11:02:45 am »
Hi guys, I was intending to get myself a Vauxhall Vivaro but as I'm a great fan of LPG I started looking on the bay to see what vans are out there with LPG.

So I noticed there are a few on there main one's I'm looking at are the Vauxhall Combo and the Citroen Berlingo the Combo looks to have a fair bit of space in the back, we need to carry two mowers and a fair few other tools as well as a 350ltr water tank and trolleys.  So I'd like to know the measurements of the back of one if anyone can help.

Also talking of length, I'm about to buy an SMAX 50 and I doubt it would fit in the back at 6'3"  ;D  How do you guys store your pole's in these short vans.

i may be wrong but if you have a 350 ltr tank you are nearley at the vans fully laiden weight plus if you are putting mowers in etc dont for get your weight plus fuel in a berlingo you may be over the legal weight limit as for the pole question rihno do a tube holder same as what plumbers use hope this helps . a liter of water is about 1kilo so find out your vans fully layden pay load

Dont do it mate ive had a transit connect for 5 years then progressed into ground maint etc mowers, tools, water tank nightmare getting stuff in and out and also tyres worn within 6 months due to over weight. Now got a vw transporter loads of room and much more payload and trailer pulling weight . If you can go bigger much much better

Good points chaps, that was also a concern I had with a smaller van.  I was assuming the load weight would be around 5-600kg

With tools mowers and a 350 tank I would certainly be close to the limit.

I have a 350 in a combo and you wont be able to fit all that lot in as well. If you like LPG go in search of the rare beast that is the Vivaro lpg, there are a few about

As above ,used to have connect but too small when trying to get other clobber in apart from window cleaning stuff . I have a vivaro 2005 van ,I like the van and the way it drives ,fuel is pretty good but I do drive very carefully .Thing is I have found running costs no different to connect ,wished I gone bigger to start with ,in fact I get more mpg from vivaro - I think its the six speed box that does it . I know Vivaro gets loads of bad press and Im waiting for stuff to go wrong ...... i dont read Vivaro reviews anymore its too depressing -all I can say is so far mines been okay -8ok on clock .
Just out of interest if you put in the vehicle details i.e reg plus log book number into DVLC mot history site all details will come up - including why a vehicle failed/ any advisories ect -its all there to see and check miles as well before you travel/buy a van ,just ask seller for details and check it out . ;D

apparently vivaros give terrible problems once they reach 81k miles.

Mate has just got rid of his LPG Berlingo mainly because it was a 1.4 and not really powerful enough to haul his tank. Worked out about the same mpg as the Hdi but with drastically less pulling power.

dont bother with lpg for wfp work, i had a 2005 vauxhall combo 1.4 16v with the factory fit dual fuel, it was gutless and struggled up hills even when empty you had to thrash it everywhere just to get it up to speed, averaged 25-27mpg

stick with a diesel you really need the torque to pull the weight.
