what to pay a canvasser ?
« on: December 30, 2011, 08:29:16 am »
want to double my round in 2012 and know that door knocking is the quickest way to do this. only problem is that i hate knocking with a passion. so i have decided to take on a s/e canvasser.

plan is to train them up to price up the jobs to save me having to do the quotes, that way i can leaflet. they can knock as they please, so i will just give them a map of areas to cover, a uniform to wear with bluefrog logo and quote forms. will confirm each job before i go to clean via phone.

plan is to pay them a % after the first clean and then the rest after the 2nd clean so that its not just 1 off's they are going for.

what % should i pay though ?

my av price comes out at about £13 nearly.... would 100% be a fair price ? 50% after the 1st clean and 50% after the 2nd clean ?

your thoughts please

I hate doorknocking but sometimes it just has to be done. I think your better option is to get some one delivering leaflets / doorknocking if they wish, then an incentive like Red Star said to encourge them to door knock rather than just leaflet. :-)

Most people should be able to get 4 new customers an hour if done right apparently.

Your in worcester aren't you?

I think that if you can get a canvasser to work on those rates/figures then go for it mate you can't go wrong.

I do know prom pesonal(bad) experience that if you start providing hotel accomodation and have to pay travel expenses it satrts getting costly...especially if the canvasser comes back with almost nothing!!

plan is for me to leaflet and canvasser to knock a few days later.

been suggested to pay 50% on 1st, 2nd & 3rd clean on matt's forum which is a good idea. the person will be local, so no need for expenses like b&b though they may be needed to travel up to 10 miles, so would pay mileage.

i hate knocking with a passion. i have done it in the past when i first started building both rounds, but cant do it now as it makes me sick to a point where i am actually sick.

I pay a guy £25 per 1,000 leaflets plus the price of the clean after 3 cleans. Works for me.

Are you going to put an ad out to get the canvasser or have you got someone lined up BF?

have someone in mind but will speak to him about it first. he used to knock with me when i started again (moved and sold up) though he was knocking and i was quoting. used to pay  him £5 per quote an +£3 if i got the job.

if he doesnt fancy it i will advertise for someone

blue 50 50 50 is good,

i would go 30 40 50 so 1.2 dont forget your running costs and first cleans are a nightmare.

the trick is to work out his outright fee for the first clean are you willing to give him a whole 50% of a say £30 house when they cancel on first?

You have to ensure that they quote correctly. I would be more inclined to just let them get leads and then you can go and quote.

yes gettin leads could work but it means he needs to do alot of back tracking to quote

but whats the rate for a lead £3? your canvasser will still make decent money just make sure he knows what a lead is , must have a name number address and they must have been given somesort of a figure, otherwise he could get u a load of crap leads.

also offer maybe a 30% for each job that stays for 2nd clean or %15 %15, problem with canvassers i find is most like the short term they would rather take a hit and take less on the first then more over 2-3 cleans!
