Phillip,
Buy some tan pads from your local cleaning supplier and use them on blacktop under your DF machine. Job done and very little money spent.

Phillip,
Jet wash them, put them in the washer. They are only a few quid.

Phillip,
Just buy one from your local supplier and give it a try. It's much cheaper than buying more and more machines that may not do any better than a pad.

At the end of the day you have to decide between yourself and the customer what the choices are.
Of course it's never wise to scrub a carpet with a hard brush or rotary (scrubbing) pad but the carpet in it's current state is f$%ked anyway with all that hardened contaminate clogged into it, and with that in mind you need to knock the living daylights out of it somehow.
I did a pub yesterday and used a red pad......but only on the blacktop areas and can't say there was much carpet fibre in the waste tank.
You'll know you've messed it up if half the carpet is in the waste tank ;D

the host machine is a good aggitator. you will not get a better machine than a crb, it is quite lightweight however and will not match some of the heavier machines. I would expect that this machine will go for a couple of hundred quid at least. I would bid £100+ just to keep as spares for the host machines I have.

Phillip,
The other thing you should know about blacktop is there is nothing that magically breaks it up in one go. Blacktop, no matter how you scrub it pad it, scrape it, comes off in layers. If you're thinking of doing it with your DF machine, you could be there for a while.

Something I found effective on black top was the gum remover wand I got with my Ninja set up. When used along with the Ashby's in line heater - close to the wand - producing steam,  it cut through it with relative ease.

I got a block of wood and hammered some nails in it so then are just proud the other side. I then put a broom handle on it. Tamp it down on the carpet and you puncture the blacktop crust. Cost about £2.50. Don't let custies see it unless they have an overdue payment.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

You can get a spiked roller from decorator suppliers. Re ebay host machine, its collection only.
