    Just had a member of staff smash a large double glazed window,he said he fell down a hole in the garden,and i think the ladder end went through the window,just wondered who should pay,me or the employee,dont want to fall out with him,hes worked for me for over  5 years.

depends on the excess and cost of replacement, may not be the best thing to claim on the insurance.

In answer to the original question, the business should pay, as that is who is responsible.
Been with you for 5 years, have you had any other issues with this chap? NO, then you are very lucky.

I slipped once and put a ladder through a small window, I was working for a legit company. They paid and then took £5.something a week from my wages. That rule applied to all the workers. That was for small claims bigger claims went through the insurance.

It's up to you how you deal with it.

Me personally since he's been working for you for such a length of time I would suffer the cost if I knew it was a genuine accident. But I would make everyone aware in future if they break things it could cost them not you.

you are the employer you pay.

This hole he fell down - is that the custies fault?
