Check the specification of the Rockwool - that should tell you the risks associated with it.  If in any doubt, then don't!  In reality, as you will need the flue, leave a gap between the Rockwool and the flue, or at the very least  place some asbestos-like fire retardent around the flue, and extend it 75mm down the flue if possible.

You can also buy heat resistant tape in rolls off ebay. Look under exhaust wrap. Wrap it around the flue pipe at the top and bring it down well past the roof lining. Leave a gap between the pipe and the ply and insulation to allow the area to 'breathe'.

You may also need to order some stainless steel clips to secure it at the top and bottom, ensuring they will be of a large enough diamt to work.
