"suction" marks
« on: October 17, 2011, 05:12:47 pm »
One of my customers has had a huge glass balcony built on her rooftop (30k of glass!) and they have some marks on them, which were caused by the window fitters suction cups, and I've tried all sorts to get them off but they still show up??
Any ideas what I can use to get rid of them? They only show up when they are wet or in the morning dew.
This is one of my top jobs and Ive said I will ask some experts that I know  ;D

Cheers Dave

Don't know but when you find out I'd like to know how to get rid of the glue marks on the inside of my conservatory that only show up on cold mornings.

I've had a couple of those, but they have been between the sealed unit, caused by the automated machine from manufacturing.

Try some acetone which you can buy from a chemist. Rub on with a microfibre cloth.

The glass would be bonded laminated glass the mark could be between the laminates.Try rubbing with Doctor muscle as its a very fine compound and will not damage the glass.

30k's worth of glass on a balcony above a conservatory .....

Fitters job to sort it mate .... i know you want to do the best you can for your custy, but in my opinion its best left to the people who made the mess when your talking about the above
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Its used by antique dealers for polishing glass. You can also use 0000 grade (extra fine) steel wool, but because it rusts you can only use it once.

It is abrasive, but will not produce any visible marks. I use it all the time on builders cleans.

Sounds like silicon, get some dry cornflower startch from tesco, dip clean 000 wire wool in it then scrub reapplying the dry flower powder.
But the silicon has probably been pressured into the absorbant glass base micro surfaces and could sadly be there forever !
Please give it a try.
