Check in your Device Manager, from the Start -> Run - > devmgmt.msc  whether the USB device is listed when you connect it. You can try removing / uninstalling all the USB drivers from there and then scan for hardware changes, so that the drivers are re-installed

At bottom it will have universal serial bus controllers, it usually has an "X" by it if its not working.

If it does right click it and press update driver, maybe the drivers have broken.

Sensai,
Tried that but everything seems ok.

When i plug flash drive in, laptop recognises it as removable disk but when i try to open it, it just says
The drive in drive E is not formatted, do you want to format now.

When i plug the same flash drive into wifes laptop it works absolutely fine...

Swap puters, she'll never notice. Just make sure all her shopping bookmarks are also on your crappy puter before you swap them over. Simples ;0)

Marcus looks like you may have to format it on your laptop

What i would do...you dont have to

Back it up on your wifes computer...and then format it on yours then put it back on it...simple...
