I guess there are employers who would help the guy if he had acknowledged this as being a problem.

He did say he was going to stop smoking it, isn't that something to encourage rather than sack him over?

Wouldn't that be rather like encouraging Amy Winehouse to stop taking drugs or else you'd cancel her recording contract?

I think that's the route the original poster is likely to be considering.

i had a lad in with me a few years back he was well in to all that .one friday afternoon he spiked my drink with speed .even though we got loads of work done that afternoon i well got rid of him .he ended up dieing on drugs a few weeks later .i later found out hed been collecting and stealing money behind my back
i am in a similar situation at the moment , was fine for approx 1 year , then slowed up , came late etc , due to drink and drugs , sacked him for collecting and stealing money behind my back , every now and then he still trys to approach my customers pretending to still be working for me , he s not trying to build a round just after some quick easy money . really annoying , but that is the ( risk ) calibre of people to employ from !

ive put an ad. out for a new worker .   in the meantime he is sidelined doing parttime leafletting  .

If AND ITS A BIG IF , he somehow  is transformed into being drug free and operating at a normal speed , in the coming weeks   (and i will know,if he constantly tells me so -then i will watch him etc ) , i guess i might let him back on the squeegee

me and my other worker are going to have to work like dogs in the meantime to take up the slack- im cheesed off about that, the extra long days ahead
