As asked above really.

Looking on Ebay and noticed that these vans seem to sell for quite a bit cheaper than other makes.

Is this because they are generally rubbish or just because they're less fashionable than,say, a VW Transporter??

Just curious really as some of them look pretty tidy in the pics; just wondered how they drive and last???

robust vans, weve had 3 or 4 over the years, not as nice as transits so they tend to be cheaper, the one s we had were reliable,

I have a family member in the trade - van & truck servicing and been advised to stay well clear,

not only are they built on very old & outdated chassis and parts - we are basically talking sherpa ! (1960's)

but alot of the parts are difficault to sorce but to the financial problems/take overs the company had -

ie. the maxus side door is notorius for falling off !

they are basic slow and on the whole look gypo. ( sorry ) - your ok as long as the one you get
is sound and never requires major items to fix it.

not as nice to drive as transits,  however ours did motorway miles and town miles with no major problems,

Thet handle like crap.
And just try getting spares for them, esp the ecu.

I say this as a Ford fan.
Mate bought an 04 new with a 5 year paint / rust warranty and it was rotting after 4 years.
Plus ecu failure twice and the injectors replaced at 3 years.
Looked for one to replace my 17 year old P100 but couldn't find one that was in as good a condition body wise.
Surely they can't all be like that?

when i broke down in a new transit(3 months old,i was working for a large plumbing company) the rac guy advised me to get ldv because they are basic they rarely fail

LDV went bust last year so spares are going to be a problem, thats all. Good reliable old work horses but a bit old fashioned as some on here have said.

Had a Maxus ( 2nd hand for 18 months without even 1 problem. Great engine , gutsy - recommended.

got an ldv same as the piccies above and so far it is fine (had it for 6 months) very economical for van of its size and pulls like a train its a good soilid workhorse. i would reccommend them , for the price they are worth it definately.

I used to be a postie, and used to drive them when Royal Mail used them.  They were pretty reliable considering how all posties used to tear about in them.  I can't recall many breakdowns in the ten years I was there.
