Biggish leafletting campaign
« on: June 25, 2011, 09:19:36 pm »
So ive decided i am going to put out about 30000 leaflets. They are the ones that are made to look like the royal mail card and i am getting a company to drop 20000 and im doing another 10000.
To be honest i am just looking to get peoples opinion on the response i might get, i know its hard to tell but really im just looking for a bit of reassurance  ;D

Thanks

I think 200 regular custys but very scattered.
Well worth it if combining  with canvassing.

Although I've not leafletted in bulk, generally I've found that each leaflet dropped is eventually worth 50p - £1 per year.  This is in smaller quantities though so the average results may be spurious.  Sometimes work will grow very quickly in a small area once people see you working there.  Other times there will be nothing.
For those who doubt my numbers (and I don't present them as being accurate on a larger scale), a 1% conversion rate would be 1 job for 100 leaflets.  If the job is say, £15 x 8 times per year, that would be £120 per year.  So, a bit over £1.  Neighbours may join in once they see you around a few times.  The flip side is that there may be one offs or that there may be no responses to 2 or 300 leaflets.
It can be quite a motivator thinking that each time you drop a leaflet, you've just gained 50p to £1 per year.  Of course, you have to do the cleaning too  ;D

This is very important; I have nearly come unstuck with this this summer.

In my experience, you'll get about 25% of your responses in week one, 25% in week 2, 20% in week 3 and the reat dribblign in for months afterwards.  You need to paln how you are going to hit them.  Assume a 0.5% response rate (which is probably typical).  In which case, 30,000 leaflets is going to bring in 35-40 or so customers in week one.  Can you handle the phone calls?  Miss them and you're cutting your chances of them every calling again.  Can you service 35-40 new first cleans coming in for three weeks in a row?  People call because they want them cleaned.  Some delay is fine (and can be good, as it weeds out the once-onlyers) but you need to be prepared.  Can you have them delivered 5,000 a week or does it all go out in a lump?  Plan, plan, plan.

Good luck!
