Rainwater Idea
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:14:07 pm »
Well dont know if its been done before but just pulled the down spout off, put about 4 pairs of tights(not mine) round the bottom, dropped some resin into the spout so it filters through, put a sponge on top of resin to stop the bits .... and its filling my barrel now with 000ppm  8)

I'm harvesting some water but putting it through 2 di vessels, measured the TDS before the vessels and its only 15 ppm.

Save the resin. I use rainwater up to 20 ppm and it's fine. Filter through the tights, sure, but DI not needed.

This is why windo ??? a Di to get the results. This is why some people think we just use tap water and just to use rainwater without Di is making a rod for your own back whatever you do comes with a price good or bad it's your choice

I think it is a brilliant idea using rainwater, and you could really use the green aspect of it in all your advertising.

This is why windo ??? G Di to get the results. This is why some people think we this is why window cleaners get a bad name just use tap water and just to use rainwater without Di is making a rod for your own back whatever you do comes with a price good or bad it's your choice
this is why window cleaners  get a  bad name you should definitely put rainwater through di to get the results. This is why our customers think we just use tap water you're just making a rod for your own back whatever you do comes with a price good or bad choice is yours ???

what a load of cobblers! the stuff that falls out sky is the purest you
can get and if you can get good results with as little chemical or artificial
intervention as possible is definately a selling point which is apositive not
a negative.

like i said before when it does rain i generally get 003ppm which is better
than comes out of a ro and i use nothing more than aquarium sponge
to filter any crud out.

if only i had the ability to store more i would save money which in
turn makes me money.

if you dont want to imform your customers to the details of how you
purify your water is one thing but say not to do something that saves
you money and makes you money is plain daft. :)

I know rainwater is the most purist. I use rainwater on a good rainy day I can collect up to 3000 L of rainwater. Not against using rainwater but just to use rainwater and not put it through a di makes no sense to me. It's other window cleaners that read this forum and spread rumours about what we use. Such as tap water and water from the river or Brock latest make-up anything to give us a bad name. By the way my resien lasted two years if that's not saving money  don't know what is :-\

do you really think that the vast majority of window
cleaners on this island use this forum ::) and as for
spreading crap about what we use tends to be par
for the course and i know if i do a good job no matter
what i use the bullpoope makes no difference at all.

most out there ive come across think rain makes
your windows dirty any way ;D and even with a little
bit of education they dont want or cant clean there own
windows mate!

i would spend more time on what your doing mate rather
than worrying needlessly on what others are saying! ;D

Rainwater quality for window cleaning depends on various conditions.

Generally the rain from a light shower going into your storage vessel will have a higher tds than after a longer period of rain simply because all the dust on the roof gets washed away in the first hour of steady rain.

I have various roofs and water storage containers.

Off my lean to roof (which is a conservatory roof on poles) I get the purest water at between 003 and 010 depending on the conditions. Off my 80 year old clay house roof it is about 008 to 015.

Off my 50 year old asbestos garage roof about 010 to 020.

In a couple of month's time (lots of garden, drive and water storage alterations being done) when my harvesting is set up more professionally I plan to have 2000/3000 litres of storage (in an insulated casing with a couple of oil filled radiators for winter) but fed from an interim 400L watertank with a resin filled outlet.
It's a game of three halves!
