Does anyone know why a lot af glass, mostly modern, after cleaning becomes very difficult to wipe with a dry microfibre cloth.
The cloth "grabs" and does not wipe smoothly.
I have found this occurs a lot after using wfp but also when using a squeegee although not as much.
I feel it is because the glass is squeaky clean and  if looked at under a microscope is not smooth.
It is just that I had a customer comment on this and she asked if Iwas leaving residue on the glass that would attract dirt.
We tested windows that had been done using both methods and all caused the cloth to "grab".
BUT, I then did the test on some older windows that had not been recently replaced and they wiped smoothly.
I feel it is caused by the type of glass but would be interested in other opinions.

Glass is never super-smooth.  Some glass may be more 'rough' than others, yes.

It's like razor blades - under a microscope, the edge is actually pretty rough.

Never use a dry microfibre is my solution. Yes they do stick and they leave a dusty mark on the glass. Slightly wet the cloth with a bit of pure. Funnily enough a damp cloth dries better than a dry one.

you will leave a residue on the windows if you trad them but me personally dont think that deeply about glass!(although i do have dreams about window cleaning from time time!! ).

i know what you mean though about "grabby" glass.it doesnt slow me down though!!

I have become accustomed to this type of glass, and have thought it might dirty quicker due to its  "grabbyness"
(new word) .
It did rattle me that the customer was suggesting my cleaning method may be causing it.
I think I will tell her that the windows may actually be TOO clean.
I have read somewhere that after cleaning, a window could cause/be? static and am aware that some cleaning solutions have  an anti static component in them.

Synthetic cloth  microfibre cause grab through static .  best stick with scrim, its a natural fibre

I did have a strange thing happen the other month on a new customer's patio doors that I have never seen before.
I wfp'd the patio door glass but on one of the panes the water just sat in a V shape about 12 inches from the top of the glass as if it had began to sheet but just stopped.
I cleaned it a second time but the same thing happened.

Yup, water lines I call them. I sort of assume its from something they have been cleaned with in the past. One of my houses is covered in them and its because the painter who painted the woodwork above the window cleaned paint spots off with white spirit afterwards I an told.
