Extreme Woo Hoo
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:11:11 pm »
Got my new slx extremes today and gotta say so far I'm well impressed.  Had a little play with them and put my swivels on (sorry Alex).  I'll be trying them out proper tomorrow early on some NHS clinics.  They are unbelievably light, the 18 with the extension so effectively a 22 ft pole is noticeably lighter than the mk2 18ft slx.  They are so rigid as well a lot more than the slx range even the mk1.

The fast release carbon gooseneck is a brilliant idea, I can see me converting from swivels to the carbon gooseneck on commercial cleaning.  The only thing is that the top clamp on the pole does the gooseneck so if you are already an slx user this will take a bit of getting used to as you'll constantly be pulling off the brush funny watching my Mrs try it out.

In the second picture you can see how they have done it.  Not only have they used High modulas cf but the poles taper out at the top and bottom, so that weight is reduced.  This means that you can't clamp the pole half way, only the top 4 inches or at the bottom.  I wondered if this might be a problem but for the last few weeks have been using only full sections on my poles and have to say that on a 4 or 5 ft pole (section lengths) especially with a swivel I've had no issues at all.  Well done Alex brilliant poles.

Simon.

I've got the 48ft one, fantastic work of art it is! I'll not get to use it 'till next week though but how about this- you can hoist it up from the ground fully extended!! :o

Regarding the end (quick release) clamp, what I do is have it pointing in a different direction to all the others, this way you'll never loosen it by mistake. ;)

Just another pic of how the pole tapers out clamp end, just after the red tape.

I also think that this pole design will reduce wear as there is a nice big void for dirt to get lost in rather than between 2 sections of carbon pole.

It's valve state so only valve preamp, it does give out some very authentic sounds though.

Can you turn the goose neck clamp round so it opens the other way? If so - might stop pulling top out by accident.

Hi SherwoodCleaningServices,
You don't happen to have a Brother in Jersey by any chance?

Yes I do have a brother in Jersey do you know him?

Yes turning the clamp around does make it a bit mo obvious. Good idea.

Hi Simon,
I know him well. I've recently gone wfp after 17 years traditional & was talking to Daniel at the weekend and he told me his brother was in the business. Put 2 & 2 together when I saw your business name on the post.
I've recently got a slx, great pole.
Looking at getting 45ft extreme. Works out good deal with free brush & gooseneck. VAT also removed as Channel Islands VAT free.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for this very informative contribution on Alex's new poles. I've seen the lastest slx uses the clamp at the end for the thread adaptor but I couldn't understand how the poles where tapered. Your pictures are most helpful.

Thanks again

Amasing how the ecomony of the Channel Islands is still sound without the residents paying VAT. Wonder where the British Government is going wrong.

I hope the change over is going smooth, it can be really tough in the first few months but after a while you won't look back.  Parking in Jersey is just a bit of a nightmare though, hope you've got long hoses.  I've held the SLX 48 extreme, it's a very nice pole, I would say the ideal choice for apartment blocks at that height.  The only think I've got around that height are factory units, and the SL2 is what I use which is more suited to long runs of windows.

Simon.

Is it the same carbon as the old 35slx or is the carbon like the super lite pole

It's better quality to both the SL and the SLX.  It feels much harder.

As for the price, the 18ft is for my Mrs who has recently had time off from work due to an opp. She is now back on her feet but having the lightest pole that she can work with is far better than using a heavier pole that in the long run will cause physical harm.
