How many Hands to work a wand
« on: May 22, 2011, 11:12:01 pm »
I have always used two hands to work a wand ,

But watching videos recently I have noticed a lot of people just working it with one hand

Depends on the carpet, the vac power of the machinery and if the wand has a glide on it.

Even with the TM I can wand one-handed no problem on low profiles - on bigger jobs it's nice to switch arms regularly to save fatigue.  But on some domestic carpets like cut pile polyprop that is matted down, you need two hands definitely.

Posture is very bad for me with wands because I'm so tall, I have to stoop to use the grab handle, or if it is set high enough it is too far away from the wand head to give me enough leverage to be of any use.  I'd hold the tube but it gets a bit hot :D

Jim, I heard of a carpet cleaner near me who is 6 foot 6 and gets wands specially made for him. Might be worth a phone call to a manufacturer.

Some clever dick will say no hands.

The other thing I see a lot is over extending, this is storing up trouble for your back in the long run.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.
