leaflet design software
« on: May 02, 2011, 05:24:01 pm »
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good software for designing leaflets, postcards etc. It doesn't have to necessarilly be free but wouldn't spend a fortune on it.
Any thoughts appreciated!

Cheers

you need to chose a programme that is accepted by the printer you are going to use, its no good designing a leaflet in MS publisher which cannot be opened by the printer

photoshop is widely accepted, but is hard to learn.

but if you are going to print them at home the MS publisher is good

I use MS publisher (Office 2010) and its great for creating perfectly good enough fliers, i find it easy to use and it now allows you to output to a range of file types including PDF which all commercial printing firms will be able to use .

Russ the must have updated Publisher in my version you don't get a save in PDF  option, i have to go online to convert it to a Jpeg which is accepted by my printer (printcarrier)

If you design a flier on Vistaprint, then order some (minimum quantity - very often FOC), after the order has been placed you can open a preview, copy the whole page and paste it into MS Word.

Just an idea, if I realised you could do this I woulda saved myself approx £100  :'(

Adobe Illustrator is what I use.

Plenty of good cracks out there and templates are easily found.

Make sure to get the bleeds right on anything you design.

It will take a little while to get used to it but there are plenty tutorials available online.

Stuff mocked up using this before sending to a designer/printer saves loads of time when changes need to made.

I use this to create leaflets, rather than the pdf creator.

Mike to save as PDF in office / publisher 2007 you need to install microsofts plugin (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4d951911-3e7e-4ae6-b059-a2e79ed87041) im sure there is also one for earlier copies aswell just search microsofts download centre.

The PDF isn't obvious in Publisher, see if you have have 'publish as' on your drop down menu, you access it  from there rather than 'save as'.
