What hose and hose reels?
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:20:07 am »
There seems to be a wide variety of hose and hosereels to choose from, and I'm guessing it's better to purchase a good quality one, since this'll be - probably - where a lot of problems can come from.

The range in price is from something like this at £100:

http://www.wintecs.co.uk/catalog/p1482/Metal+Hose+Reel+c/w+100m+6mm+Hose/product_info.html?osCsid=jjon11gkgjkh51qmj9db2069r3

To this at over £200

http://shop.brodexbms.co.uk/products/van-mounted-steel-hose-reel

So, I'm prepared not to skimp on a hose reel (remembering I need to buy two of 'em), so I wonder what's the general consensus on what's best; for example is fixed better than loose?  And would the cheaper one be just as good, if it were fixed to the floor of a van?

And how do you fix them to the floor?  Do you wedge in a bit of wooden plank and somehow attach them to that?

And what diameter hose should I get?  There's seems to be either 8mm or 6 mm (is that minibore and microbore?)

Also, if applicable, wheels or no wheels?

Thanks, and apologies for the questions.

P.S. It is easy to cut 'n' paste a link to a forum, just go to a web page you want the link from, go to the top of the page with your mouse icon (pointy thing), and where it line starts "www. (etc)" right click and click on 'copy'.

Then go to this forum, and in a post, right click again and click on 'paste'.

And then you've posted a link.  Press preview and click your link in the preview box to make sure it works nicely.

Yes, I think I will.  Do I need wheels?  And what's the best hose?

I had one with wheels never found it to be of any use at all, the wheels that is.  I have just changed from minibore to micro and it is so much better you could do a Gardiner one stop shop on hose and reels free postage.

Yeh, right!!!  I reckon that's a marketing trick to make the 'normal' hose reels look more like a decent price if you know what I mean.

The Gardiner hose cart looks like a Claber to me. I've got 3 of them and they are nice and robust. On my 3rd year with them after trying Hoselocks, Ironics, and a all metal one- which kept falling over  >:( Claber stuff seems to be good quality. Worth the Dosh Tosh!

I find the cheap plastic ones better because they are very light to lift and don't kill your back, Ok may only last a year then chuck and get another one for about 15-20 quid and i use microbore 6mm very light easy to use hose fantastic stuff

Tosh

I was given a bottle of jack daniels today. I have never tried it before so tonight is a bit of an experiment, so I may be rambling a bit in reply to the hose reel thread, but here goes.

I am proud of my old hose reel, I found it in a skip about four years ago, it is a hozelock and it was free. From time to time I need to replace the 'o' ring for the spindle connector, but apart from that it has been a total star.

I have had an eye on the hose reel threads for a while now, and have been sblack personing (laughing)up my sleeve when I see some of the prices that you boys are paying.

If ever my old duffer really gives up the ghost I will be straight onto the nearest hozelock dealer for a new one, with the certain knowledge that it will be good for at least four years.

The main advantage for me is that I can easily replace it there and then in any high street whereever I am, and continue to work for the rest of the day.

I think I will call my hose reel harvey.........  :D

added: it edited sn****ring and put "black personing" what a silly world we live in. S n i g g e r r i n g
if it is dirty it is fair game
