The Prochem product works fine for me. Apply directly, agitate, leave for a few minutes, then blot/extract. This product is sligtly viscous, so it does not run straight into the carpet.

The Stapro product is fast and aggressive, be ready to extract staight away if you use that.

Cheers

As far as I've come across there are two types.

Phosphoric acid based is safest but will struggle on severe problems

Hydrofluoric acid is much more effective but requires handling carefully.

Echo the above craftex is good early bottles of prochem rust remover were PH 2.5 NOW PH 1
They all need a little agittation and time to work before you rinse.

I use the Craftex one nd it's great. Rust disapeares on contact but I believe you have to rinse pretty soon after applying.

WD40.

That reminds me of a job I  did a couple of years ago. Custy had a new carpet fitted, the fitters trod tar all over it whilst fitting it. Customer complained so the supplier did some research on the web and advised the customer to spray WD40 on the tar.  Everywhere they had sprayed it the carpet had lost it's dimensional stability and left raised areas. I think the backing was damaged. Maybe WD can be effective in some circumstances, but I would be careful.

In my opinion the prochem stuff doesn't seem to work at all  ???

I have used Extracta one and works virtually every time, although I closed the bottle quickly once a bit spurted in my eye, boy was that painful even after copious cold water !

Wouldn't recommend it ::)

Used the extracta one for years and it's always done the job great, recently been buying Craftex from Restormate and it's just as good.
