Website advise
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:10:23 pm »
Hi all
I am trying to get my first website up and running but am finding this a little technical for me.
Do I buy a programme from pc world and do it myself or pay a web designers. I have come across carpetcleaningwebsites I think they are called but not sure if the all look generic.
I obviously want my website to work for me but not sure if this will work doing it myself

Pay someone that knows what they are doing...Then start to optimise, otherwise no one will ever see it!

I was going to buy a prochem portable until I realised all their machines looked the same ::) ::)

I have one of their websites and couldn't care less that it looks the same as one in Liverpool or Devon...... no one who sees my website will ever see the other ones anyhow,

whats important is how it performs and its top of google searches

if you can afford it get a professional to do it, if not carpet cleaning websites then someone else.... but don't pay a fortune

Paul,

If you do not know what you are doing, you are likely to get stuck for hours on what the Americans call "$ 20 problems". In other words, you could pay someone twenty dollars to cure the problem that takes you all day and drives you nuts.

I've said on here before that I think Mark at carpetcleaningwebsites does not charge nearly enough. He'll do you a decent site that should do OK locally (without any further promotion) for a very reasonable amount.

You could have one of his and earn money fairly quickly. You could then try to do one yourself and have some fun learning without any pressure to make money straight away.

If you really want to do one yourself, have a look at Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/) and all the tutorials at Wordpress.tv (it's all free).

Best of luck,

Garry

Many people start by looking at whether you can get a website that doesn't cost anything. The answer is that there are ways of getting free web pages online that you can edit and control to an extent, but such free hosting sites are never going to rank highly in search engine results and you do not have control over the details which could influence such things.

I would pay someone who knows what they are doing. It may seem like a lot of money but if done properly will pay for its self x 10. The majority of our new work comes from our website which has had Search engine optimisation work done to it too - the best money you'll spend. Unless you really know what your doing it will show in your website design.
