I do general housecleaning, and I'm often asked if I can clean carpets or upholstery. I do own one of those Bissels, but I don't think many people understand that those things are NOT what professional carpet cleaners use, and so I almost never even tell people I have one. Their money could be better spent on a proper carpet cleaner.

I've been told that I ought to "sub out" these requests to a professional, but I'm not sure how to do that? I'm not a big organization - just a sole trader - and I'm not sure how it would work. Ideally, I'd assure the client that I can get their carpet cleaned, call the cleaner in, and the client would pay me so I could pass it along to the carpet cleaner.

I suppose I could simply give the client the card of the carpet cleaner, but I'd rather actually set it all up and make it happen - sell the whole thing as part of my service - and that way it would be relatively seamless.

Has anybody had such an arrangement? Could you tell me how I could set this up?

Thanks!

I am given work by 5 cleaning companies and it works out really well. Its all about relationship building and trust as far as I'm concerned. I just give the cleaners some dates and times that I can accomodate their client and they organise it.

You just need to find someone you can trust and take it from there.

So... how does it work, payment-wise? Does the domestic cleaner make any sort of commission or kick-back or what?

And, do you also pass along recommendations to your clients when they ask about general cleaning?

normally yes to both questions its all about relationships really you help each other out and get a kickback I do work for one where after 3 nice jobs I do one free either her home or a job where she keeps the money

One of mine gets the client to pay me and doesn't take anything for herself as I get her work too. She is my biggest domestic cleaning client and has 6 employees plus herself all cleaning in houses.

The others get the client to pay them, they add a bit on and then pay me. These are all commercial cleaners where work is invoiced to them and they then re-submit to the client.
