Going back in time.
« on: March 06, 2011, 09:03:05 pm »
This week I decided to go back in time and use the type machines I used about 6 years ago.

Tuesday I did a eot flat followed by an eot house. To be honest, neither was that bad.
6 years ago I was using the Texatherm rotary system with heated digital water tank and Tex fluids.
I decided to use my 15" Numatic rotary, vac, presprayed carpet with Surround, agitate with brush, dampened pad with the same, then bonneted. Well pleased with the result.

Thursday, I did a settee and a chair using my Numatic CTD extraction machine, twin vac motors with a 45/50 psi pump. This suite was really bad, but came up lovely after vac, prespray with Double Clean, agitate with microfibre mitt, rinsed with Clear Water Rinse, bit of towelling on the arms..

Well pleased with both results, particularly the suite using my 18 year old Numatic CTD machine.
Might do a bit more.

Hi

Lots of people all over the country use numatics on car upholstery, but it must take a long time to dry.

Joe would have used an air mover of course.

I think you proberly charged more than 6 years ago.

Number of reasons.
We moving house soon, downsizing, cant take everything with me, so need to determine what to flog or keep. (I could take stuff and store in large shed for summer but would ruin much next winter).

Do I keep the rotary or not?
Its what I used to use, and with the likes of JasonL using rotary as his main machine I thought I would give a go with the latest cleaning fluids.
I am not suggesting I would go back to using rotary as my only or even main machine, decision whether to hold on for a while longer, and yes I am going to.

With the Numatic CTD, sort of a different situation. 18 years ago it was my main machine and very hard work. It is now my spotting machine, but heavy and bulky. I could get a more compact spotter ie CFR or Aquarius, each of which could be used for upholstery.
So I thought I would give the CTD a go again on upholstery, especially this job as it was so grotty, again trying it with more modern cleaning stuff.
As I said, I was very pleased with result, so why not.

David, didnt use air mover.
There was a coal fire in the room, so I stacked the cushions around it (not too close obviously) and left it at that. The first done cushions were drying nicely by time I left.

Price wise, before I frequented this forum (last 4 years) I was charging something like £55 for a 3 piece suite (5 seats). Charged more then that for the 3 seats, but timewise still "lost" out cause it was so bad and I only do one standard of clean irrespective if its gone over my estimated time or not.

I have a CTD which I use for spotting and small awkward jobs where the Altec would be too much of a pain and it always does a great job. Certainly hard work if cleaning anything more than a small room though.

Used a small spotter to clean some seating in a flat that had no lift and did take a while longer to clean but did the job rather than mess around with hoses etc upstairs.

Strapping lad like you Clinton, you should have put the Alltec triple vac on your back and carried it up.

What did you insulate the shed with,
and what was the shed made of.
The one I am inheriting is "plastic" - less fire risk apparently.
