Awkward gutter downpipe sorted
« on: February 27, 2011, 11:15:17 am »
Struggling yesterday to get to a blocked downpipe, normally use 6.3m double with a stand-off and get to most with poles etc. Couldn`t get to a working position with them so i hooked up the extending lance with swivel to customers tap but the crud wouldn`t dislodge and no way was i going home to fetch the pressure washer. Only ladders against the corner of the brickwork would mean getting to the gutter and downpipe and that was a no no(i work on my own). So i thought well i`ll just try the other ladders with my attachment(ladder-safe). I was totally impressed so i thought i would post a couple of pics. I use ladder limpets at the bottom as well but they are not in the photo. I`d taken some pics inside/out etc to e-mail to the customer and when uploading them thought the ladder-safe worth a mention on the forum.
When the downpipe is blocked solid i like to pull the angles apart and that means getting up there and i have to say most jobs i do, a guttervac would be as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
I`ve had my ladder-safe 3 years and its the first time i have used it on a corner,i knew it was a good bit of kit but now i know its a great bit of kit and i even rang its designer to tell him this morning(a window cleaner i know in York).
So am i on here trying to flog them?
No i am not but it got me out of a pickle yesterday and i got a feelgood factor being able to finish the job simply.

It looks like a good piece of kit, where did you get it?

Got it 2nd hand unused from a painter and decorator i knew,3 years ago, and when we got chatting realised i knew the chap he had got it from. There out there for sale,i asked when i rang the the man this morning.Ladders online he mentioned and i`ve just found them on there at £102.95 ,went to checkout and it seems to include vat and standard delivery though next day is £18 rising to £25 before 10.30. Not a cheap item but it doesn`t feel cheap. Apparently a very large window cleaning equipment manufacturer are wanting them( and there are price negotiations taking place,i think 40,000 had to be made to get a price anything like reasonable but it starts getting hefty when retailers are wanting 60% and more profit margins and wishing to buy at less than they cost to make.. With the health and safety laws i would have thought these would be a success story but they have only ever dribbled out. If anybody thinks there`s an opportunity there i can put you in touch with the chap thats designed them and made them, all self-funded.

It just clips on a ladder so its easy on/off

I`m going to ring him again and see if i can get rich  ;D

There's a version out there at the moment with wheels on for £39, I've seen them on ladder sites over the last few weeks whilst I've been shopping, not the same one as you have but very similar.

Just found the wheeled one on e-bay, the company selling them are "activegardening".

Cheers for that,i found it,i think this would have too many drawbacks as its only suitable for a corner, full stop, the ladder-safe has the flexibilty to be always ready for other tasks.

Bloody hell, I may wish i`d kept this to myself.

I dont think that though,i use it and here is the best place for it to "run the gauntlet" so to speak.

Hi Sean
Where did you get your gutter cleaning lance from please? Been looking for one for ages but haven't found anything with any reach yet.

Its an extending  pressure washer washer lance 5.4M and horrible to use(don`t let anyone tell you different),it can be useful though. Theres a 7.3m and even goliath`s struggle with that one.

Ask for damien, its his business, they are appx. £110 and they are not the cheapo chinese ones that have ends that break off rendering them scrap. Having said that they probably originate from the east somewhere.

Thanks
I was looking for something I could use with water tap pressure though as I don't fancy buying the pressure washer.
Thanks again though,

They work with tap pressure.

Just run a hose up the side of a Harris pole or Unger optiloc for further reach and customise it a bit with a spray nozzle on the end. Duck/Gaffer tape was invented for window cleaners.
